Philosophy

The purpose of the Farmington United Percussion Ensemble, or FUPE, is to help young people grow as musicians and as individuals through a comprehensive offering of musical and performance experiences.  Our goal is to achieve the highest level of musical and visual excellence that we are able to reach within our given abilities.  FUPE is open to anyone interested in participating and is willing to give his or her best effort.  We will accept students with any ability level and help them improve their skills.

History

The Farmington United Percussion Ensemble was founded in the fall of 2004 and was at that time limited membership to high school age students from within the Farmington Public Schools District located in Farmington, MI.   The ensemble competed in the Michigan Color Guard Circuit during the 2005 season and was awarded first place in the Independent Open classification.  In 2006, Farmington United opened membership to any high school student regardless of district and received the silver medals in the Independent A classification while competing in the Michigan Color Guard Circuit and attended the WGI Championships in Dayton, OH.   In 2007, FUPE defended its silver medal finish in MCGC Independent A classification.  In 2008, Farmington United won the MCGC Independent A classification, the WGI Dayton Regional and finished the season with a bronze medal finish at the WGI Championships in Dayton, OH.  In 2009, FUPE was the MCGC Independent A Champion, the WGI Troy Regional Champion and the WGI Silver Medal winner and the WGI Championship.  In 2010 the ensemble was promoted to the Independent Open classification and was named the MCGC Independent Open Champion.

Community

In addition to competitions, FUPE annually performs at many other functions locally and regionally.  Our annual performance at the Michigan School for the Deaf is a highlight for both performers and audience alike.
